I Think I Might Actually Have My House Decorated for Fall!

Well, not yet, but at least I started with buying an old tin washtub on a stand that I am filling with yellow mums. The girls begged me to do something besides just a lonely little pumpkin out on the front porch, so I am! I think I will get a bunch of pumpkins, just need to pick out what to put them in. Inside is another matter, must rid the shelves of ebay goods and put my own stuff out. I have the best idea for making pumpkins out of feedsacks, let's just see if they turn into real pumpkins and not just imaginary ones. Here are new photos of some pumpkin bowls and such that I am relisting.

Clean that House!

I've been out on the deck taking pictures for ebay while my girls played with the little neighbor girls in the back yard. They are just 3 and 5. The youngest is a blonde ringlet, china blue eyed doll and quite the little firecracker. She asked to come in the house and I told her not today, as I have the biggest mess inside (couch covered with fabric I am sorting through to cover crocks and the like, bookcases unseen behind stacks of ebay wares ready to list, tables and kitchen counters obliterated by the crocks and tins I just washed, and shipping boxes making a nice little maze on the floor.) She put her hands on her hips and said, "Well, I'm a good cleaner, I'll just come in and clean that up for you!" I laughed and told her thank you, but I'll get it done soon. No! she says, I am going in there and I'm going to clean that now! She was determined, I guess she thought I shouldn't wait another minute.

This is what I did get done in my photography studio/backyard:

Bike Rides Halloween Auctions and the Prairie Pantry

I did not get to go to Rochester, but have spent my time getting ready for auctions and listings today. We started by dusting off the bikes and going for a ride on our very nice bike trail. I didn't like any of the new bikes to be had, but found this wonderful blue Schwinn last year. It takes more effort than the bikes with gear shifts, but old fashioned always wins in my book.

Weekend Road Trip

I think we are going to head off to Rochester and see the Gold Rush antique show tomorrow, been following Simply Iowa's blog about the show in progress now. Should be a lot of fun and hopefully will find a plethora of prims.

I've finished some Halloween goods and if I haven't worn myself out shopping, I should get those listed on Sunday, some auctions, some buy it nows. I just filled up this 1940s storage jar with baseballs and softballs, one last ode to the summer so soon to pass!

Tying One On

A drink does sound good, but this time I was just tying stuff onto other stuff. It all started when I gathered my unsold items to make some adjustments. Wood spoon near bread board inspired me to tie them together, eureka! So cute, I couldn't stop, I went searching cupboards for old spoons and nutmeg graters and before I knew it, all tied in knots!

Summer's End

Now that we can finally leave the house as the heat breaks, it is apparent that summer is really coming to an end. Those noisy locusts are the first sign, and realized as we went out for an evening walk that the dark is coming much earlier. All the water grass has taken over once real grass lawns and the lettuces have bolted, my poor tomatoes never did give me much this year, they did not like that heat any more than I did. They just look sad and droopy now. I'm going to love the fall and try not to think to much about the snow that will need shoveling long before I'm ready for it!

Nothing says end of summer like watermelon, I did up some breadboards and a cute seed tin.

Check Out Sisters Glass House Link

A few weeks ago, we stopped at Sister's Garden and fell in love with the little glass house they built behind the shop (the girls and I really, really want one). I was so happy to see they posted photos of the construction and finished house. In person it is even more magical, I'm telling you, a stop at Sisters just cannot fail to make you happy!

Cool Breezes and Toothless Rabbits

The horrible oppressive heat gone at last! Lovely cool breezes out and we have taken to the walking trails that we haven't seen for a month, so good to get out of the house!

In Scooter the bunny news, he stopped eating again, all snaggle toothed and miserable. Back to the vet for xrays where they found he never shed his baby teeth and adult teeth grew over them which is why they would be forever crooked and keeping him from eating, so all the long front teeth had to be pulled and had to have stitches where the baby teeth were removed. Once his pain meds wore off (if you've never seen a stoned rabbit, it is interesting, I will say), he started eating and didn't stop to take a breath until the bowl was clean. Never dreamed one would need such a thing as bunny dentistry.

Vet visits and walks have kept me from my work, I think I need someone to push me back into that workroom, I am not feeling motivated!

A Day at What Cheer Was Not So Cheery

This weekend is the big What Cheer flea market, which we attended yesterday. What Cheer is the name of the little town, the market is in the fair grounds there. Well, with Satan hot weather, it was not the most pleasant day I ever had, and boy were the dealers crabby! The girls and I took sunshades, but it was awful. We made it down 3 aisles before I got a headache and started feeling queasy. We left my husband in the heat and went to get water and shade (in the 2 hours we were there, we each had 3 bottles of water and a large iced tea and were still thirsty!). Fortunately for me, my husband is insane, he stayed out in the heat, found us an hour later, he is laden with bags of mashers and rolling pins and butter paddles, called us weenies, and went out to shop some more. I told the girls we were bound to find him passed out in the field from heat stroke, but he did fine. I did find a few things myself, but he gets credit for stocking the shop this week!

The Attack of the Giant Dough Bowls

I painted up these enormous dough bowls last year, listed them, then forgot about them when the listings ended, I just happened to notice them sitting forlornly on a bench down here in the work room--you know your work room is a mess when you don't notice a stack of giant bowls for a year! They are all 18 and 19" in diameter.

I have been a very good girl this week, finishing up special orders and getting all excited about painting up fall things and even wistfully thumbing through a Christmas book, can hardly wait until it is evergreen time again!
