Giving Up on Antique Malls
I have been "selling" in antique malls for over 25 years. The early years were good, we had a booth in Galena and sold lots of furniture, then I did craft shows, which were pretty good, but the set-up work was just too much. I also did well in the Country Sampler store in Kansas City before everything went to hell about 14 years ago. Country Sampler went bankrupt and I lost my last check and barely got my inventory out before they locked the doors. Antique malls started closing all over the place, mostly because the heating and cooling costs were so astronomical that the owners couldn't make a living. I tried renting space at several in the area with just pittance sales here and there. EBay sales remained good, thank goodness and I weathered all their changes (many I have hated, like the increase in fees and the last insult, charging me fees for the shipping cost too). I've stayed at an antique mall for years despite really bad sales, partly because I thought it had to get better, but mostly because the owner is such a wonderful person. I finally have to give up though, and will spend this week getting the inventory on EBay. Here are a few things I have ready to sell.
