Bureacratic Nonsense

I turned 52 this year, and apparently that is just a little too old to put up with bureaucratic nonsense anymore. I just hung up on the animal shelter here in town, before I started saying bad words... Here is the story. We decided to go to the animal shelter to see if there was a bunny to adopt, thought it was a good thing to save a shelter animal. I was mildly annoyed by the long prying questionnaire that had to be filled out, put up with being told we would have to wait 24 hours for the shelter to "check us out" before we were "allowed" to pay $75 to have a 2 year old rabbit spayed and take her home. They did not call me at the end of the 24 hour period as they said, so I called them, and was told that before they could decide, they would need to inspect our home. I said, "you've got to be kidding", they got all huffy, of course they couldn't place animals with just anyone. If only you could see the flames shooting from my eyes at that point! Long story short, I hung up on them and took the girls to the pet store where the very nice owners know us from our hamster purchases, and are lovely to my children, and who obviously love the animals they are caring for without being insane about it. Little Scooter Pie, a lion face bunny has now joined our family, currently hopping around the living room getting used to us. He is the sweetest thing, lets me scoop him up and hold him without getting skittery, seems to be a calm soul and we love him already.

  1. Wow! What stupidity on the animal shelters part! Too piss off perspective caring potential owners. I understand the need to check out who they place the animals in their care with but a home visit? Absolutely ridiculous!

Well good thing for Scooter Pie as he got a new home with you and your family.

  2. Same thing happened to my sister when she tried to get a dog from the shelter here in the NY/NJ area!!! She was hoping to get a puggle (combo pug and beagle), but didn't for the same reasons you have mentioned. Come to the home? Really? She ended up getting one from a nice family in Missouri!!
Good luck with Scooter Pie -- he's a real cutie.

  3. I know our shelter has a waiting period but a home inspection? What kind of three ring circus are they running?? Sounds to me like they will be setting up a lot of animals for extermination that could have been placed in loving homes, and that is a darn shame!

My son has a white with orange spotted lion face named Gizmo. He has a little bit of attitude but is crazy cute! Scooter Pie is so adorable. Congratulations on your new addition! ;)

  4. What a little sweetie pie!! Just makes you want to snuggle him! I feel your pain with the shelter experience - I had an equally exasperating experience over an entirely different issue (a crazed Rotweiller that imprisioned me and my son, then ultimately my husband, and a deputy sheriff in our home for 12 hours and they wouldn't provide me with the location or name of the dog's owner when it was released back to them....) Very sad. Have fun getting to know your new pet! Smiles & Hugs, Robin
