Country Christmas Open House in Clarinda

Still having more enthusiasm than sense, I am having my annual Christmas sale at my home in Clarinda Iowa, 302 South 15th Street on December 3rd and 4th. I deck the grand old lady out with antiques and my own folk art for this sale. It is exhausting, but I really love doing up displays, and here is a tiny sneak peek of the offerings I will have there. I will set up this weekend, hopefully remember to take my camera and show off my little vignettes.

  1. your house is beautiful. What year was it built? I lived in an old house that was built in 1910 for eight years. Unfortunately it didn't look as beautiful as yours and I was going to college at the time and did not have the money to fix it the way it needed.

  2. It was built in 1887, most assuredly did not look so beautiful the day we moved in! It was actually going to be demolished when the family who bought it before us saved it and rehabilitated the upstairs. Worn out, they sold it to us and we got the downstairs redone. The day I moved in, it was still carpeted in orange, yes, orange, shag carpet. We thought "refinish the woodwork, paint the walls, good as new". We were so naive, all walls had to be replaced, all the floors replaced, all wiring redone, all plumbing replaced, but the old girl is so gorgeous now, she was worth it. No one believes it used to be the house used as the town haunted house. Thanks!

  3. Oh, Elaine
Yes, The house is a beauty!
A lot of work done to her!
We had the same thing with our home! Took us two years before we could move in!
So much joy though isn't it to sit back & see all the work and the beauty of it!
Please show more pics of the house, she is so beautiful, I love the late 1800's homes so much character!
Of course I would so enjoy to come to your Christmas sale! But too too far!
Enjoy & have fun with it!
Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family!

  4. Your home looks so inviting. I wish I could have attended the open house. I actually live in Iowa, too, but am not close to Clarinda. It looks like you have a wonderful eye for vintage treasures. Have you ever come across doll-size drying racks?
